Cascade Medical Team - Guatemala

March 4th
Guatemala City, Guatemala

Project Description

We Travel to Guatemala (Quiche area) with the Cascade Medical Team (part of Helps International) for a Surgical Mission. I perform Anesthesia for various surgeries during our week there. Last year we had several specialties including general, gynecological, and plastics.

Population Served

We travel to a remote area in the mountains of Guatemala to provide much needed surgical services to an underserved community.

Expected Impact

We plan to perform surgeries for 5 days. Last year we traveled with 68 volunteers and completed 92 total surgeries. We worked very long days but it was a truly rewarding experience. I hope to have as much of an impact this year.

Trip Photos & Recap

There were so many highlights to this amazingly rewarding mission trip with the Cascade Medical Team. We were in Santa Cruz Del Quiche, Guatemala.

I finally got comfortable giving anesthesia in this primitive setting, there is definitely a learning curve to it! I had the sweetest little 4y/o patient, who laughed with us right until the point she went to sleep! I even got an amazing handmade gift from a patient, as a thank you, it must’ve taken her months to make it! We helped to change the lives of so many people, and the genuine appreciation that they show is like nothing you ever see in the United States.

We did 96 surgeries and installed 150+ stoves/water filters as a team.

I can't wait until next year and I am so grateful to be part of such a special group of people!
