Uganda Head and Neck Surgical Camp

May 5th
Kampala, Uganda

Project Description

I will be traveling to Kampala, Uganda with a team of healthcare providers led by Dr. James Netterville of Vanderbilt University and Dr. Chad Zender of the University of Cincinnati for a week long head and neck surgical camp at the Uganda Cancer Institute. Drs. Netterville and Zender will be the senior surgeons working alongside local Otolaryngologists. I will be working with local clinical officers in the outpatient setting seeing Ugandan patients with various head and neck pathology and demonstrating use of advanced diagnostic tools such as flexible nasolaryngopharyngoscopy and point of care ultrasound of the head and neck.

Our goals are twofold: to serve the people of Uganda in need of specialized head and neck surgical care as well as teaching the local head and neck surgeons and clinic officers

Population Served

As Uganda is the host country for this outreach effort, we will be serving patients from locally from Kampala and rural Ugandans. We will also be serving local head and neck surgeons advanced diagnostic techniques to expand their ability to care for their community.

Expected Impact

Our lasting impact goals are to aid in making better, more confident surgeons and clinicians by teaching cutting edge techniques and skills. This will benefit all Ugandans as they will have stronger, more competent surgeons and diagnosticians in the area of otolaryngology.
