I plan to go with Central America Outreach and Endoscopy to provide anesthesia for the endoscopy procedures that people of the community would not otherwise be able to have with-out our presence.
We will be serving the town of Santiago Atitlan by performing endoscopy procedures at the local hospital. This hospital serves approximately 75,000 Mayan people, majority of which can-not afford care. We aim to be able to provide needed specialty care to an area that does not have its own endoscopists and can-not afford the specialty care procedures, like colonoscopies and endoscopies, we are going to provide.
In performing anesthesia to the people that need these endoscopy procedures, it will allow them to get necessary diagnosis and treatments. This will not only allow for them to be able to fix what ails them but also be able to live a more productive life, thus impacting the whole community.
We helped 47 people in the Santiago Atitlan community. I provided anesthesia for endoscopies and colonoscopies. I also was able to assist with intubating and resuscitating a patient who got ran over by a truck and took them by ambulance to a hospital that had resources to care for the patient two hours away through the mountains.
