Gynecologic Medical Mission in Da Nanang

July 3rd
Da Nang, Vietnam

Project Description

Office and surgical care for indigent females in Da Nang, Vietnam. Education for and assistance to local physicians in recent techniques, medications and treatments for disorders and diseases of the female genital tract. Healthier and more productive female population improves the next generation as they become pregnant and give birth to the next generations.

Population Served

Improving health conditions for the patients and increasing reach and benefit for local population by teaching the physicians currently there.
This particular group was founded by Dr. Tri Dinh, the son of the former Director of the Women's Hospital of DaNang. The entire family was forced to evacuate in the 80s to my hometown. Dr. Dinh and I grew up together and even attended same undergraduate university.

Expected Impact

The medical team will also have assistance from non medical volunteers who will work with local children with literacy via art projects so that potentially the sisters and mothers having care or needing in patient surgery will also have their family needs met as well. The need medical care often takes a back seat not only to finances but to the needs of others that the patient must care for.

Trip Photos & Recap

I was probably the MOST impacted by the trip. I came away with knowledge of the conditions that the current population of patients and doctors work under. They take good care with very limited resources. The entire TVD team made a huge difference in many arenas. I hope to go back and be of more concrete help next time but this trip allowed me to discover gaps in knowledge and determine how best to help the extremely hard working physicians
