Project Description

The team will be providing free general, plastic and ophthalmological surgeries to people in deprived communities in Ghana. In Ghana, Prisoners or Inmates are in dire need for medical care, so as we did last year, free dental care, Ophthalmological care and surgeries will be provided for the prisoners also. This year trip will as usual give the opportunity to people from underserved communities free access to the services mentioned above.

Expected Impact

We are expecting to do 2000 free cataract, 500 free general/plastic and screen thousands for eye, dental and medical (diabetes and HTN) disorders. The goal of the trip has always been to work and train the local health care professionals to continue when we leave.

USTA 2024 Ghana Medical Mission brought a lot of joy to the needy in the society as always. Almost 400 people underwent free surgeries including hernia, hemorrhoids, myomectomy, total hysterectomies, and other plastic surgeries etc. Additionally, over 1000 people were also screened for hypertension and diabetes for free. Moreover, about 6100 people were screened for various eye disorders. Reading glasses were given for free for about 1000 people. Dental mission also saw over 600 people that underwent free screening and procedures. Continues Education Training of health Care professionals went on as planned. The training saw over 200 health care professionals benefiting from it. This will go a long way to improve upon the health care delivery for patients at their respective hospitals and clinics. Overall, about 7000 lives were impacted during the Ghana Medical Mission 2024.
