Project Kenya - IR Fellowship Support

October 4th
Nairobi, Kenya

Project Description

As a part of RAD-AID International, we started the first Kenyan IR fellowship program at the University of Nairobi in collaboration with Kenyatta National Hospital. We continue to support the program by in person training and education. Our team will partner with the in-country interventional radiologists to provide educational and clinical support for the IR fellows in the program (currently 4 IR fellows).

Population Served

By supporting the IR fellowship program, we will benefit the trainees, the radiology department, and in turn the Kenyan population able to benefit from the minimally invasive treatments provided by interventional radiologists.

Expected Impact

The expected impact is vast as our consistent collaboration continues to increase the number of practicing IRs who remain in Kenya, not only supporting the Kenyan patient population but also able to train the next generation of interventionalists. Our prior graduates of the program practice in Nairobi, training the new IR fellows, but also have established practices in Nyeri, Mombasa, and Eldoret. We hope to expand our collaboration to include Moi Teaching University and Referral Hospital to expand our reach.

Trip Photos & Recap

This trip to support the IR fellowship program at the University of Nairobi, Kenya was incredibly impactful. We spent time providing didactics, case conferences, and hands-on collaboration with our in-country partners. In addition, we made efforts to continue our in-country relationship building, working towards securing much needed equipment for the department. It was amazing catching up with old friends, seeing residents and fellows make life-long friendships in new international colleagues, and ensuring the interventional radiology training continues to progress. A special thank you for Doximity Foundation for helping us make this trip possible!
