I am a third year pediatric resident in Houston, Texas (at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital) and hoping to attend a conference in Tanzania October 21-26 - the 4th annual Tiny Feet, Big Steps— Advancing Care of Critically Ill and Premature Babies in Africa Neonatology Conference.
I am hoping to provide intensive workshops at this conference on non-invasive ventilation.
I plan to teach physicians and nursing staff in non-invasive ventilation - how to set up circuits and how to trouble shoot issues that arise. This will allow these individuals to implement this in their hospitals (in Tanzania as well as other countries in Africa) and provide better care for neonates.
The impact of this workshop will be overall improved care for neonates around the world allowing neonatology staff to provide the respiratory support they need.
I created workshops to help participants understand how to trouble shoot a bubble CPAP/NIPPV circuit as well as to help participants better understand the differences between bubble CPAP and NIPPV and when they can use each. I helped participants gain hands on experience.
Over 200 participants, nurses and physicians, were trained in the workshops and were able to gain practical hands on experience and trouble shooting skills. This will equip them to give life saving care to neonates around the world.
