Kenya has very few pediatric trained anesthesiologists.
This projects aims to bring a 2 week PEDS SAFE workshop to Naivasha District Hospital, outside of Nairobi, Kenya in March 2025. Four pediatric trained (pediatric anesthesia board certified) anesthesiologists from University of Washington/ Seattle Children's Hospital, as part of UW Global Health (UW GAIN) Program will visit Naivasha District Hospital and teach a hands-on, multi-day educational course focusing on pediatric anesthesia topics. The course will span over the course of 2 weeks, 3 times a week for a half a day, and the rest of the time will be spent in the operating room doing more ad-hoc teaching in a clinical setting.
Local Kenyan anesthesia residents and fellows, anesthesia nurses/ assistants, and teaching faculty. It is a collaboration with local anesthesiologists (Kenyan Society of Pediatric Anesthesia) and Nairobi Medical University pediatric anesthesia fellows.
