I'm hoping to join the ReSurge International team to deliver hands-on training to surgical teams in low-income countries in an effort to build local capacity and create long-term, sustainable surgical and anesthesia care.
I aim to dedicate my skills as an anesthesiologist to serving the community of my home country, where I was born and raised
I hope the greatest impact of this mission will be the ability to share knowledge and skills in a way that continues to benefit patients long after we leave. By focusing on hands-on teaching, the goal is not only to treat patients but to strengthen the skills and confidence of local providers so they can carry this work forward for their own communities. For me, there is also a personal dimension, returning to teach in the country where I was born and raised allows me to give back in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Hands-on learning is a crucial aspect of any surgical training program. During our recent Surgical Team Training Trip to Hue, one of ReSurge’s training hubs, we collaborated closely with local counterparts. Our local partners guided us to potential teaching cases, enabling us to address capacity gaps and train the entire surgical team to prioritize patient safety throughout treatment. We facilitated approximately 20 teaching cases during the week, emphasizing intensive training while also supporting the local team with the most complex cases.
Beyond giving back to my homeland, which I had been away from for years to learn, grow, and develop a specialized skillset, I humbly learned the challenges of providing care in an under-resourced environment. I witnessed the resilience of patients and the profound impact of offering low-cost or even free care to those in dire need.
