Ghana surgery mission

November 6th
Techiman, Ghana

Project Description

This is a humanitarian volunteer trip to Ghana offering free surgeries to the local people who cannot afford to pay for surgeries and hospital fees. I am joining a team as one of the anesthesia providers.

Population Served

We will be serving the Poorest of the poor in Ghana.

Expected Impact

A expected impact will be sharing our skills and service will heal many people who desperately need surgical care. So many people would not be able to have surgeries the rest of their lives because they cannot afford it. Our service will change their lives and able to share our love as friends and as neighbors. Also our organization and our service will inspire and encourage other health care workers in the US and Canada to actually go and get involved in these humanitarian work. By actually going and doing the work, we first learn how wonderful it is to serve. We actually realize we are the one receiving showers of love and full of gratitude from the local people and return home with such a rich contentment and fulfillment.

Trip Photos & Recap

First of all, I would like to thank Doximity for supporting my trip cost. It was my third trip to Ghana with Operation International. This time, we performed gynecological, oncological, and general adult and pediatric cases. These patients were not able to afford surgeries, so without our help, more than likely, they will have to live their current condition the rest of their lives. We were able to perform 93 surgeries to give impacts and better quality of lives.

As always, I am just amazed and learned so much from the local anesthetists. Their resources are limited, but their work is strong and their work ethic is amazing. Lastly, I was impacted and humbled by Ghanian’s smiles and hospitality. I know I will return to Ghana again to serve.
