I have an overseas placement in Nepal at the cancer hospital. There are only 6 oncologists for a country of 30 million. An oncology fellow ship program has just started.
This is a hugely underserved population. I will be involved in training junior faculty, setting up a formal teaching curriculum and providing second opinions on complex cases.
This is a long term project. I expect to return regularly. Online lectures and tumor board on a regular basis is being planned. I will mentor one of the junior doctors and guide through a research project. .
I visited the Cancer program at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan in Eastern Nepa, March 2026. A long trip from Phoenix, AZ and appreciate travel support from Doximity. BPKIMS is a large medical campus with a 800 bed hospital and attached medical, dental and nursing schools. It is a referral center for all of Eastern Nepal. It was an amazing experience to share my knowledge and learn from Dr Soniya Dulal and oncology team on how to manage complex cases and provide high quality multi disciplinary care with limited resources. Hope to return again and continue collaborations on research.
