My mission is to provide essential surgical care to underserved communities in Syria who lack access to affordable medical services. The team will deliver a range of high impact procedures including colon cancer resections, hernia repairs, gallbladder surgeries, as well as comprehensive outpatient evaluations and follow-up visits. The goal is to restore health, relieve suffering, and support long-term well-being for patients who otherwise would not receive the care they need.
Underserved population in the outskirts of the cities of Damascus and Homs
The mission is expected to significantly improve the health and quality of life of patients who lack access to essential surgical care, addressing conditions such as hernias, gallbladder disease, and colon cancer while reducing pain and preventing complications. By collaborating with local healthcare providers, I will also help strengthen clinical capacity. The lessons learned will inform future missions, enhance efficiency, and support ongoing partnerships that promote sustainable, long-term improvement in surgical care even after we return.

The medical mission focused on Harasta, an underserved area on the outskirts of Damascus with limited access to healthcare, particularly surgical specialties. Patients were evaluated in outpatient settings for a wide range of conditions, including hemorrhoids, Crohn’s disease, colon cancer, and rectal cancer. In collaboration with the local medical team, I performed an abdominoperineal resection (APR), a complex surgical procedure for rectal cancer, on a 47-year-old patient who lacked the financial means to obtain surgical care. The operation was successful, and the patient had an excellent postoperative recovery, being discharged home four days after surgery in stable condition and good health.
