Surgical mission trip to Comayagua Honduras

April 24th
Comayagua, Honduras

Project Description

I am the Founder & President of Operation Hope Medical Missions and I am also a CRNA. I will lead the volunteer surgical mission team of approximately 30 team members this spring. I am responsible for making sure that our surgical team functions efficiently and provides as many free surgeries as possible to those in need during our week-long surgical brigade. By making sure we provide safe and efficient care, our hope is to serve about 100 patients. Restoring health through surgical procedures allows patients to improve their health with less pain, physical limitations, and social consequences.

Population Served

The patients our team serves at Saint Benedict Medical Center in Comayagua, Honduras are the poorest of the poor. All services provided at the hospital are free of charge as patients don't have the means to obtain medical/surgical care. The hospital leadership and brigades serve the very poor in the region because without surgical brigades such as ours, patients wouldn't have access to medical and surgical care.

Expected Impact

The expected impact is that many patients will receive free medical and surgical care. Our team educates the local physicians and staff so that they can provide adequate follow up care to the surgical patients after we leave.

Trip Photos & Recap

Our team was able to serve the poorest of the poor in Honduras. The patients our team cared for were widows, orphans, those who don't have the resources to pay for surgery or medical care, the disabled, the neglected, and the overlooked. It was a privilege and honor to serve the patients at San Benito Jose Medical Center who desperately needed care.
