I will be returning to Rwanda for a second time and working with the country's second ever Emergency Medicine residency program based at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda. Myself, local, and visiting faculty will be teaching daily case conferences and weekly didactics. We are also coordinating efforts to create low fidelity ultrasound models for ultrasound guided IV's to teach this skill in a limited resource setting. Additionally, we will be re-hosting our low fidelity ultrasound guided pericardiocenteis model for simulation and training. The latter project is in development for a possible publication with local Rwandan physicians.
We will be working with Emergency Medicine residents from King Faisal Hospital from years 1 to 3. We will included nurses, medical assistants, and other staff who provide direct patient care.
We have completed some of these activities before and had an excellent response! The residents, physicians, and other health care staff really enjoy our teachings and have reported learning greatly from our lecture, case-based, and simulation based activities. I hope to continue returning to teach again and again, and maybe even later this year! I plan to become visiting or adjunct faculty and hope that this repeat trip will continue to build relationships in the region. Additionally, I work in a critical access/rural community and can carry over much of what we teach to my own nursing staff and patient population. I work in a limited resource and critical access setting and believe there is a cross cultural exchange of experience between Kigali and rural Wisconsin where I work.

We served the educational needs of a local, urban, academic hospital. Our team held educational sessions with many medical learners across various departments and career positions. We held daily lectures with nursing staff in the Emergency Department. We conducted weekly conferences with Emergency Medicine residents. And held a hospital wide Mass Casualty Tabletop exercise with nurses, staff, faculty, C-suite members, physicians, and other health care affiliated members. Additionally, we conducted simulation training for procedures and ultrasound training sessions. Our training does impact the clinical reasoning and actions especially those who provide clinical care.
