ReSurge Mission Trip to Hue

April 16th
Hue, Hue City, Vietnam

Project Description

This is a ReSurge International Medical Mission Trip to Hue, Vietnam, from April 20-24, 2026. I am a volunteered reconstructive plastic surgeon to teach reconstructive surgeries to local surgeons and to perform needed surgeries to the local patients.

Population Served

Many local patients lack access to reconstructive surgery (such as breast reconstruction, lower extremity reconstruction, lymphedema surgery) and many local surgeons do not have the expertise to perform these surgeries. This mission will provide the service and train the doctors to continue the work.

Expected Impact

We expect participation of ~30-50 local surgeons throughout Vietnam. These surgeons will continue to offer the surgeries they learned after our trip and provide regular report to ReSurge on their progress.

Trip Photos & Recap

Our recent reconstructive surgery mission in Hue, Vietnam was an incredibly meaningful and collaborative experience. Surgeons from around the world worked alongside local Vietnamese surgeons to combine expertise, resources, and surgical skills in order to care for more than 20 patients requiring complex reconstructive and microsurgical procedures. Many of these life-changing operations would otherwise not have been accessible to these patients.

Beyond patient care, the trip created a valuable opportunity for international collaboration, education, and mentorship. We were honored to share techniques and lessons with local surgeons while also learning from their experience and adaptability. The mission further allowed for hands-on teaching and mentorship of local resident surgeons, helping support continued growth in reconstructive and microsurgical care within the region.

The experience was a powerful reminder of how global surgical partnerships can expand access to specialized care, foster mutual learning, and create lasting impact for both patients and providers.
