Provide cardiac subspecialty care to underserved in rural Puerto Rico
Adults living in Puerto Rico with high incidence of cardiac disease risk factors such as HTN, DM, HLD and obesity.
Identify undiagnosed or inadequately treated heart disease in a susceptible population that lack exposure to cardiac subspecialty care.
We met with student athletes, orthopedic surgeons, family practitioners and trainers. The purpose of our visit was two-fold. First screened athletes for underlying cardiovascular condtions that may hinder partcipation in competitive sports. Second we identified, treated and provided education on prevention of sports injuries.
