The mission will serve the poor and ethnic minorities of central Vietnam who have limited access to surgical care. This will be a pediatric and plastics surgical mission. Surgeries will include cleft lip/cleft palate, facial deformities, burn scar revisions, hand and foot deformities and general pediatric and urologic surgeries. These may include hernias, undescended testicles, and hypospadius. This population has a history of being significantly underserved and often have longstanding surgical needs that have gone unmet.
The pediatric population in central Vietnam, specifically those that lack financial resources or live in remote regions will benefit from the mission. These will include ethnic minorities and those with no access to surgical care or difficulty obtaining care due to distance from surgical centers. This ppopulation is the most underserved and often have longstanding surgical needs that were not able to be met.
We will also be training local surgeons and anesthesiologists as well as giving educational presentations on pediatric surgery and pediatric anesthesia

Surgical Volunteers International served 51 patients in Hue, many of whom were ethnic minorities and had very limited resources. Surgeries performed included cleft lip/cleft palate, facial reconstruction, polydactyly and syndactyly, hernia surgeries and hypospadius repairs. We will be following the patients very closely to ensure maximal outcomes. Thank you so much for your assistance in allowing me to contribute to such a worthy cause!
