I am the ambassador leading a trip of PA students and alumni to Cayo District Belize to serve rural communities with diabetes management and education, orthopedic treatment, and possibly other areas of need.
Belize, underserved rural/farming community without adequate access to healthcare.
Last year, we were able to serve the community by providing orthopedic treatments to farmers with overuse injuries and diagnose/treat diabetic patients.
The Belize trip was just as amazing as last year, allowing us to meet patients where they are, provide care for chronic diseases and joint pain, and continue relationships with returning patients- including one who worked hard to control their blood sugar so they could receive a knee injection this year.
I am incredibly proud of our students for jumping in, asking thoughtful questions, educating patients about diabetes, and genuinely wanting to make a meaningful impact in the communities we served.
