Regional underserved youths in need of cardiac screening for sports participation
I expect the impact to be helping prevent sudden cardiac death in sports with cardiac screenings for underserved youth. This will hold a lasting impact on me going forward, knowing I helped the youth at this academy do what they love safely and with the proper screening.
I had the privilege to go to the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico to perform cardiac screening on the underserved youth students at the school in prevention of sudden cardiac death on the field. We were able to perform vital signs and EKG screenings, and refer patients who need further work up to a local cardiologist. It was an honor to help these athletes in ensuring they are safe and healthy to practice and perform, and keep them safe from any unknown harms from cardiac abnormalities.
