We will be providing didactic education to contribute to training physicians in the emergency department of Maputo Central Hospital. This will involve multiple lectures and real time feedback on shift. These will focus specifically on focusing care in resource limited settings and the acute illness, trauma and diseases/illnesses specific to the patient population in Southeast Africa. I plan to also give dedicated lectures on the use of ultrasound in trauma and undifferentiated hypotension. Ultrasound is a particularly useful imaging modality in resource limited and/or austere settings where other imaging modalities (such as X-Ray, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging) may not be accessible. We plan to collaborate with local physician leaders and resident physicians to identify healthcare gaps specifically related to their patient population.
The physicians and patients who receive care in the Mozambique healthcare system including the Maputo Central Hospital. Additionally, didactics and clinical/ bedside teaching will be given to resident physicians, medical students, and registrars at Maputo Central Hospital.
The expected impact is to gain exposure to acute illness, trauma and diseases/illnesses specific to the patient population in Southeast Africa. Didactic lectures focusing on POCUS in resource limited setting where other imaging modalities are limited will benefit for the practicing resident physicians and the patient population of Maputo Central Hospital. Additionally, I will gain understanding of the Mozambique healthcare system including the Emergency Department resources and workflow. We will collaborate with Maputo Central Hospital colleagues on local projects

I led two didactic stations on the RUSH exam and duel sequential defibrillation for general practitioners for the Maputo Central Hospital Emergency Medicine symposium. The learners experienced hands on teaching using a butterfly ultrasound and simulated cases of V fib and V tach to discuss indications for duel sequential defibrillation. I assisted in patient care in the red zone of Maputo Central Hospital ER.
