February 1st
Pignon, Haiti

Project Description

We are a surgical mission at heart, but also serve in the Emergency Department and offer educational programs for the Haitian physical, medical students, and nurses.

Population Served

The Community of Pignon, Haiti. The population is just under 30,000 residents and the average income is about $2 USD per day. We are seeing in this community to assist the local Haitian medical staff with complicated surgical cases and to assist with teaching.

Expected Impact

Our hope is that thru didactic lectures and clinical teaching we are able to help the physicians on site to better care for their patients on a day to day basis once our mission has ended.

Trip Photos & Recap

In February of 2020 World Health Partnerships, a non profit organization, traveled to Pignon, Haiti for a surgical mission. We served thru Promise for Haiti, an organization that supports the hospital. We found a beautiful community with a 65 bed hospital complete with 2 modern operating rooms, an ICU, an ED, a lab, radiology with X ray and US, a Family Planning and prenatal clinic, an HIV/AIDs clinic, a prosthetic clinic, and much more. The hospital in organized and functions 24/7, 365 days a year with Haitian medical staff. Our role was to provide support and teaching to the staff. We were serving with Haitian medical and nursing students and also provided assistance with the attending staff. We were able to see the community and to visit a few of the rural community schools in the surrounding area. We bought 500 pounds of rice and beans and shared these with families in need under the direction of Promise for Haiti. Our mission was to find our place in this community. To learn how we can serve them in the future. It was an amazing experience and we are in the process of planning for our return with a larger team and bigger plans! Thank you to the Dox Foundation for their support in our service. God Bless, Dr. Daniel Richardson, Program Director and Mission Coordinator, World Health Partnerships.
