We are traveling to Ujjain and Indore in Madhya Pradesh in India at the later part of January 2020.
This is a recurring trip and next year will be our 5th year traveling to India.
The trip is focused on pediatric facial plastic surgery, correcting congenital conditions such as cleft lip and palate, as well as deformities from trauma, burn, etc., and other conditions of head/neck.
We provide free care to underserved populations in conjunctions with local providers and pair with a local surgeon for post op care.
We typically perform around 100 surgeries for this patient population. Working with local surgeons, access to care is continued post operatively to help them navigate their recovery. In addition, since we return annually, we have been seeing patients return the following year.
We had another successful trip to Ujjain and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, India. This was our team's 4th year travelling to these cities. It was my 5th year participating in humanitarian surgical trip to India. Our focus remains pediatric patients with facial malformations or deformities (primarily cleft lip/palate, also including other congenital conditions, trauma, burn, or infection sequelae). Our goal is to help provide care to patients who otherwise may not be able to access the healthcare system, providing safe and quality surgical serivces. We travelled to Ujjain first and spent 2 days there; followed by 3 days treating patients in Indore. Each site began with a screening day followed by surgical care in the operating room. It was wonderful to see previous patients follow up (photo). We coordinated with local surgeons at each site, Dr. Raunak Shinde in Ujjain and Dr. Rahul Chhajlani in Indore. We anticipate returning next year.
